Jay’s Brewing Malt Spotlight – Weyermann German Pilsner Malt

January 5, 2018

2018, General posting, Malt Spotlight

This week’s Jay’s Brewing spotlight is Weyermann German Pilsner Malt. This lager based malt is produced from high quality 2-row spring barley and was originally produced in the world renowned Bürger-Brauerei, or what is now called Pilsner Urquell, located in the Czech Republic. Concerning color and flavor, this malt is capable of producing a pale straw-color beer with a mild, malty sweet flavor with gentle notes of honey. German Pilsner features a high extract efficiency and excellent lautering properties. This Malt is drier and crisper than a Bohemian Pilsner with a bitterness that tends to linger more in the aftertaste; sometimes due to its higher attenuation. German Pilsner is great for use with any style of beer, and is a perfect choice for European or American lagers; these include: Vienna Lager(7A), Munich Dunke(8A), and Altbier(7B)
