Briess Cherrywood Smoked-This grain is the second of our three-part series on smoked grains. Briess Cherrywood Smoked Malt is a pale barley malt smoked with cherrywood. This grain has a unique flavor that is both smokey and subtle with a small amount of fruity afternotes. Cherrywood Smoked Malt is used to create a flavor that is both complex and rich, with a smokey flavor that can be added to a variety of different beers. It tends to behave like a base malt with an added benefit of an intense smokey flavor. Note that this malt is recommended to a limited 20% in lighter style beers and 60% in stouts and porters. These include Classic Style Smoked Beer(32A), Specialty Smoked Beer(32B) and Scottish Heavy(14B).
This and 58 other malts are available year-round at Jay’s Brewing in Manassas, VA.
