Jay’s Brewing Malt Spotlight – Weyermann Beechwood Smoked Malt

October 22, 2017

2017, General posting, Malt Spotlight

Weyermann Beechwood Smoked Malt:
This malt is the first in a series of three smoked malts regularly stocked at Jay’s. Crafted from German-grown spring barley, Beechwood smoked malt imparts a unique flavor and aroma desired in many Ales and Lagers; flavors can sometimes come across as notes of vanilla and honey. Beechwood smoked malt is perfect for any homebrewer looking to add a smokey flavor, without the additional use of liquid smoke. This malt is a common recommendation when designing German classics such as Kellerbier(7C) and Rauchbeir(6B) or Scottish and smoked flavor beers like Scottish Heavy(14B), and Classic Style Smoked Beer(32A).

This and 58 other malts are available year-round at Jay’s Brewing in Manassas, VA.

Malt Type: Base Malt
Lovibond: 2.1-3.6
